Day-wise Itinerary
Day 1: Day 1: Fort Kochi, Mattancherry and Jew Town
Your driver arrives at your hotel at 8:00 am. After breakfast, you reach Fort Kochi around 9:00 am, when the streets are quiet and the light is soft. Start at the Chinese Fishing Nets, then walk to St. Francis Church and the nearby Santa Cruz Basilica. Around 10:30 am you visit the Dutch Cemetery, a calm spot with old colonial graves, and wander through the lanes with their cafes and art spaces.
At 11:30 am your cab takes you to Mattancherry Palace, known for its traditional Kerala murals, and the Paradesi Synagogue nearby. Both have fixed visiting hours and weekly closing days, so your driver plans the order accordingly. Walk through Jew Town, where antique shops, spice sellers and handicraft stores line the lanes.
Lunch is at 1:30 pm at a local restaurant, with Kerala meals, appam and stew or fresh seafood. At 3:00 pm you take a short rest or visit a museum such as the Indo-Portuguese Museum, if open. Around 4:30 pm you return to the Fort Kochi waterfront for a seaside walk and sunset, with street snacks and the evening crowd.
At 5:30 pm you can attend an optional Kathakali performance, with timings and tickets varying by venue, or head back early for rest. Your driver drops you at your hotel by 6:00 to 6:30 pm. Overnight in Kochi.
Day 2: Day 2: Hill Palace, Kumbalangi and Cherai Beach
After breakfast, you leave at 8:00 am for Hill Palace Museum in Tripunithura, about 12 km from Ernakulam. You arrive by 9:00 am, and spend around 90 minutes in the campus, viewing royal artefacts, paintings and ancient objects. The museum has a weekly closing day, and photography rules apply inside.
At 11:00 am you drive to Kumbalangi, a quiet backwater village known for its calm waterways and Chinese nets. Walk along the edge of the water, watch local fishing and, if you like, take a short canoe or boat ride, subject to local operators. Lunch is at 1:00 pm at a local restaurant or homestay, where fresh fish and Kerala dishes are the highlight.
At 2:45 pm you head to Cherai Beach, a long, clean stretch where the backwaters meet the Arabian Sea. Walk along the shore, enjoy a coconut water and watch the afternoon light change. Swimming conditions vary by season and tide, so follow lifeguard advice.
By 5:00 pm you begin the return to Ernakulam, with an optional stop at a market or mall for souvenirs, spices and snacks. Your driver drops you at your hotel, airport or railway station by 6:00 pm. If you are leaving Kochi the next morning, tell us in advance, and we will adjust the schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is one day enough for Kochi local sightseeing?
One day covers the main heritage areas, but Kochi's attractions are spread out. Two days lets you see Fort Kochi, Mattancherry, Hill Palace, Kumbalangi and Cherai at an easy pace.
2. Do you pick up from the airport or my hotel in Kochi?
Yes. We can pick up from Cochin International Airport, Ernakulam railway stations, hotels and homestays. Please share your pickup point and time while booking.
3. Are museums and palaces open every day?
Not always. Several have weekly closing days and fixed visiting hours, and religious sites may limit entry at certain times. Your driver plans the order around these and suggests alternatives if needed.
4. Is this plan suitable for families and senior citizens?
Yes. Drives are manageable and the private cab allows rest stops. Walks in Fort Kochi and Mattancherry are mostly flat, and any stop can be skipped.
5. Are entry tickets, meals and activities included?
These are generally paid directly unless your booking says otherwise. Please confirm exact inclusions with our team while booking.
6. Can the itinerary be customised?
Yes. You can add Bolgatty Island, Marine Drive, Lulu Mall, Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary or a backwater cruise, or swap spots depending on weather and your interests.

Kochi Local Sightseeing โ Travel Guide
Kochi Local Sightseeing: Plan Your City and Backwater Trip
Kochi, also called Cochin, is one of the most interesting cities in South India. For centuries it was a spice port visited by Arab, Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch and British traders, and each left something behind. A well-planned Kochi local sightseeing trip lets you see that layered history, along with beaches, backwater villages and royal heritage, in just a couple of days.
Why two days is better than one
Many visitors try to fit Kochi into a single day and spend most of it moving between areas. Fort Kochi and Mattancherry are on one side, Ernakulam is the commercial centre, and Hill Palace, Kumbalangi and Cherai are in other directions. With two days, you group them sensibly, avoid the worst of the afternoon heat and leave time for lunch, shopping and a slow evening. This Kochi 2 day tour is built around that balance.
What the sightseeing covers
Day one explores Fort Kochi and Mattancherry, including the Chinese fishing nets, St. Francis Church, Santa Cruz Basilica, the Dutch Cemetery, Mattancherry Palace, the Paradesi Synagogue and Jew Town, followed by sunset on the waterfront and an optional Kathakali show. Day two goes to Hill Palace Museum, Kumbalangi village and Cherai Beach. Along the way you can try Kerala meals, fresh seafood, banana chips and spices from local shops.
Why choose a Kochi sightseeing taxi
A Kochi sightseeing taxi is the most comfortable way to cover these spread-out places. You avoid bargaining at each stop, wait less in the heat and travel with luggage and shopping bags safely stored. Our drivers know the local roads, parking areas and the best time to visit each place, and they can plan around weekly closing days and festival traffic. It is especially useful for visitors who are new to the city.
Heritage, culture and everyday life
Kochi is not only about monuments. In Fort Kochi, the lanes are full of small galleries and cafes. In Mattancherry, spice merchants still weigh pepper and ginger much as they did generations ago. At Kumbalangi, local families run homestays and cook traditional meals. At Hill Palace, you can see how the former royal family lived. These layers make the trip feel richer than a simple photo tour.
Great for families, couples and groups
Families travelling with children or senior citizens appreciate a plan with short, manageable drives and easy stops. If you are searching for Kochi family sightseeing, the private cab format allows rest breaks and flexible timings. Couples can ask for quieter sunset spots and a relaxed pace. Friends travelling together can share the cab and split the cost.
Best time to visit Kochi
October to March offers the most comfortable weather for walking and sightseeing. April and May are hotter and humid, so early starts help. During the monsoon, from June to September, heavy rain can affect beach and backwater plans, but the city looks fresh and green. Keep your plans flexible and check the weather before you travel.
Practical tips from our team
Start early, since mornings are cooler and less crowded. Carry sunscreen, a hat, water and comfortable shoes. Keep some cash for small entry fees, parking and snacks. Dress modestly at religious sites, and check visiting hours and weekly closing days with your driver. Avoid plastic and keep beaches and backwaters clean.
Book with Wonder India Cab Trip Zone
