Maharashtra Jyotirlinga Trip from Pune: Bhimashankar, Trimbakeshwar & Grishneshwar
Maharashtra is home to five of the twelve Jyotirlingas. Three of them โ Bhimashankar, Trimbakeshwar and Grishneshwar โ are the ones most commonly combined into a road trip from Pune.
The three Jyotirlingas
- Bhimashankar โ in the Sahyadri hills in Pune district, the closest of the three to Pune.
- Trimbakeshwar โ near Nashik, at the source of the Godavari.
- Grishneshwar โ near Ellora, a short drive from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
How many days should you plan?
Bhimashankar can be done as a one-day trip from Pune. Combining all three with Shirdi and Ellora usually works best as a 3-day circuit, with night halts at Nashik/Shirdi and Sambhajinagar. Allow extra time on Mondays, Shravan month and festival days when queues are long.
Best season
Monsoon and the months right after it are beautiful around Bhimashankar, though the ghat roads need careful driving. Winter (November to February) is the most comfortable overall for the full circuit.
