Wayanad Local Sightseeing

Day 1: Day 1: Pookode Lake, Karlad Lake, Banasura Sagar Dam and Kanthanpara FallsYour driver arrives at your hotel or resort at 8:00 am. After breakfast, you reach Pookode Lake around 9:00 am, when the water is calm and the forest edge is quiet. Walk the shoreline path, try a pedal boat if you like and browse the small craft stalls. Allow about 90 minutes. At 11:00 am you drive to Karlad Lake, a peaceful lake with a relaxed, picnic-style atmosphere. If you enjoy a little adventure, activities such as ziplining may be available, subject to season and operator timings, and are paid directly. Spend about an hour here. Lunch is at 12:45 pm at a local restaurant, where you can try Kerala meals, appam or biryani. At 2:15 pm you head to Banasura Sagar Dam. Walk along the embankment, enjoy the island-dotted reservoir and take in the Banasura hills. Boat rides, where available, are optional. At 4:15 pm you visit Kanthanpara Falls, a gentle waterfall set in tea and coffee country. The late-afternoon light is lovely here, and access depends on rain and local conditions. By 5:30 pm you begin the return, stopping at a tea or spice shop on the way. You reach your stay by 6:00 pm for dinner and a quiet evening. Overnight in Wayanad.

Day 2: Day 2: Edakkal Caves, Phantom Rock, Heritage Museum and Sultan BatheryAfter breakfast, you leave at 8:00 am towards Ambalavayal. At 9:00 am you reach Edakkal Caves on Ambukuthi Hills. A short drive and a stepped climb take you to ancient rock carvings and wide valley views. Allow about two hours, wear comfortable shoes and carry water. Around 11:15 am you stop at Phantom Rock, a skull-shaped formation nearby, for photographs and a short walk. At 11:45 am you visit the Wayanad Heritage Museum at Ambalavayal, which displays tribal artefacts, tools and objects from the region's past. Plan for about 45 minutes. Lunch is at 1:00 pm in Sultan Bathery. At 2:30 pm you visit the Jain Temple, a calm stone structure that gives a glimpse of the area's history. If time and energy allow, we can add Kuruva Island or Thirunelli Temple in the north, though these make for a longer day and may need an earlier start. By 4:30 pm you begin the drive back, with a stop in Kalpetta for coffee, spices and homemade chocolates. Your driver drops you at your hotel by 6:00 pm, or at the bus stand or a restaurant of your choice. If you are leaving Wayanad the next morning, tell us in advance and we will adjust the schedule.
